Sometimes Red is Just Red

Both Parties Overreact to Special Election Results

As Republicans gloat in the wake of the latest House special elections, and Democrats, as is their wont, form a circular firing squad, it’s important to remember one thing: This is what was supposed to happen. The most high profile of these races – in Montana, Kansas, South Carolina and Georgia – were all in ruby red districts. In all four cases, the Democratic candidate closed the gap from 2016 an average of 18 points. In the Georgia 6th alone, Democrats gained a full 20 points.

2018 will provide the first real test of a “Trump Slump.” Watch purple districts currently represented by a Republican.
