
As Republicans gloat in the wake of the latest House special elections, and Democrats, as is their wont, form a circular firing squad, it’s important to remember one thing: This is what was supposed to happen. The most high profile of these races – in Montana, Kansas, South Carolina and Georgia – were all in ruby red districts. In all four cases, the Democratic candidate closed the gap from 2016 an average of 18 points. In the Georgia 6th alone, Democrats gained a full 20 points.
2018 will provide the first real test of a “Trump Slump.” Watch purple districts currently represented by a Republican.
