Desperate to distract from the legal problems plaguing the leader of their party, Republicans are throwing everything at the wall to see if anything will stick.
The Washington Post: “The Republican chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee recommended Friday that the Justice Department investigate for possible criminal charges the author of the now-famous ‘dossier’ alleging the Trump campaign coordinated with the Kremlin during the 2016 election.”
“The move by Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) marks a major escalation in conservatives’ challenges to the FBI’s credibility as the agency investigates whether any Trump associates committed crimes. Another Republican, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), joined in the letter to the Justice Department.”
The Boston Herald: “Under fire from President Trump as well as some GOP lawmakers who are now openly calling for his head, [Attorney General Jeff] Sessions has been busy working to open yet another Hillary Clinton probe in an apparent effort to appease the increasingly irritated president and his supporters.”
“The Department of Justice is gathering new details about the way the former secretary of state and her aides handled classified information that was sent over Clinton’s private server, according to a report by The Daily Beast.”
Bloomberg: “The Justice Department…reportedly has launched a new investigation of payments to the Clinton Foundation in exchange for political favors during Hillary Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state. The Clintons have been endlessly scrutinized by the media and law enforcement about their foundation, and the FBI closed its investigation of the matter in 2016 after finding no wrongdoing.”
